With a finger on the pulse of recognizing the next big thing, from rising stars to future top models, Yigal Azrouël has always designed for his muse – the strong, confident, modern woman.

Drawing inspiration from their international flair, combined with the essence of his Made-in-New-York label, Yigal Azrouël: Made in New York celebrates the individual style of fresh faced, creative women who have made their start in his hometown, New York City.  The series will debut seasonally, starting with actress Taylor Lashae, whom you might recognize from her impressive Instagram following.

A story like many creatives that make the migration to the illustrious New York, Taylor moved from Texas to the city to pursue modeling and acting, and has already compiled an impressive resume for both. Her favorite acting moment to date includes working on the set of HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, igniting a love affair with the lifestyle and aesthetic of the 1920’s. However, much like the roles Taylor takes on in her acting career; her style is ever changing. She believes in experimenting with style and never limiting herself to a certain look or trend. Her closet is mostly black - her color of choice, and she has a strong admiration for leather jackets and feminine dresses.

In between castings, Taylor can be found sitting on the steps at Union Square people watching; making up intricate stories about the lives of the strangers that fade in and out of view, or passing through a park for a quiet moment of refuge.

Taylor Lashae is featured here wearing the Yigal Azrouël Pre-Fall 2015 collection around New York.

When did you move to New York?

I moved to New York when I was 21. I just loved how fast paced New York was compared to where I grew up in Texas. It’s a place where you come with ideas. You come to the city to make those ideas happen. Whenever you picture New York, you picture it in black and white. Everything is so romantic and nostalgic. And I guess that’s what brings everyone to this city.

What is one of your favorite things about New York?

You never know what can happen in New York. You can walk the same path every day and the moment you decide to take a different street or path your whole world can change. You’re in this totally different place, all the sudden. I love how each town in New York is like its own little world, it seems. New York is such a great place for diversity. Everyone is different but we’re all just the same.

When you think of style in New York, what comes to mind?

I see all black. Everything is very classic when I think of New York style. Modern minimal also comes to mind. It can also be random...

How would you describe your style?

I find myself wearing black a lot. I go for the 70’s rock and roll vibe, but I don’t stick to any style per se. I’m in this transitional period, trying to reinvent myself and seeing where it goes. That being said, I love leather jackets – they will definitely always be a staple in my style for years to come.

If you have a day off, what do you like to do?

I stay in bed. I like to read and I like to watch movies – I’ve very much a home body and when I have some time to myself I stay in, always thinking and trying to improve upon myself.

When did you first know you wanted to be an actress?

When I first moved to New York I was working as a modeling agent. About 2 years ago I decided I wanted to try acting and I booked all my first rehearsals immediately. It was then that I started to really get involved in the industry and looked at New York in a totally different light. I went to an amazing coach, and she’s my mentor. I read a ton of plays, and read a ton of scripts. Acting has been really great for me here in New York, the two years that I’ve done it.

What is your favorite project you've worked on thus far?

My favorite project was Boardwalk Empire. I think it has to do with how tedious and intricate the clothing was - the set design, down to the flowers and even the tiny matches. We’d wake up at 3am and go to set with all these people that looked like they were from the 20’s. The women would all get their hair and make-up done, and we’d sit and sip our coffee with our hair up in these 20’s dos. It was probably one of the most exciting projects to be a part of, it was really something else. They transformed the New York streets – it really showed what New York once was.
